Directed by Bryan Singer (he's back!), Days of Future Past brings together the OG trilogy cast and the First Class crew for one epic, time-bending crossover. Think Avengers: Endgame, but with more leather and existential dread.
Starring Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Patrick Stewart/Ian McKellen (because yes, you get both timelines), this film is ambitious, emotional, and finally fixes The Last Stand's mess. 🧹💣
Plot Summary
The future is grim: mutant-hunting Sentinels have wiped out most of mutantkind and humanity’s not doing great either. In a desperate move, the surviving X-Men send Wolverine’s consciousness back to 1973 to stop Mystique from assassinating a scientist whose death leads to the Sentinel program.
Cue a groovy time-travel mission where Wolverine has to unite a young, broken Charles Xavier with a rogue Magneto and convince Mystique not to go full assassin. Easier said than done.
Performances & Direction
Jackman is peak Wolverine—gruff, funny, and weirdly the emotional center. McAvoy shines as a disillusioned Xavier, and Fassbender’s Magneto keeps bringing that morally complex magnet energy. Jennifer Lawrence gets a much meatier role as Mystique, balancing rage and hope.
Singer directs with purpose this time, blending past and future smoothly. Action scenes hit hard—especially that slo-mo Quicksilver prison break, which might be one of the coolest sequences in superhero cinema. ⚡🎶
My Review
This movie is X-Men therapy. It’s the cinematic do-over we needed. It wrestles with themes like regret, destiny, and whether people can really change. It's not just about saving the world—it's about saving themselves. That moment when older Charles connects with his younger self? Gut-punch in the best way.
It’s messy at times (because time travel always is), but it’s a smart, emotional story that brings the franchise full circle. And hey, we get Sentinels, time-hopping drama, and Charles walking again briefly—what more can you ask for?
When the credits roll, it finally feels like the X-Men have their second chance. And maybe... so do we. ✨
